Day 41: SNO-VID Day UPDATE
***UPDATE***
So, apparently snow is coming down pretty hard and pretty fast out there. I am grateful Philadelphia students, families and teachers do not have to travel through that, at least to get to school.
Now, we could debate the merits of a true snow day as compared to a virtual learning snow day, and fret about the slippery slope these virtual snow days seem to create (see what I did there?), but for now, I will keep it positive because I am just so darn proud of waking up at 5:30 AM again to write!
Luckily, when the School District of Philadelphia (SDP) called the virtual day early yesterday, I had time to practice signing on to Zoom with my students and make copies of a paper assignment packet in case any of them have technology or internet issues.
This represents a vast improvement over giving schools notice of their virtual status at 4 PM the day before, or 8 PM, 10 PM or even after 11 PM the night before schools would be closed. Or at 7 AM the day of, when students were en route or had already arrived at a school that was suddenly closed.
All this happened — in the past four days. Which is to day, SDP, I’ve still got my eye on you.
